40 years of DIgSILENT GmbH - 40 years of Power System Solutions
The year 2025 is a special one for DIgSILENT. In addition to its 40th anniversary, the company is celebrating the opening of its third German location in Berlin, the founding of a subsidiary for the North American region in Canada and a significant office expansion at its headquarters in Gomaringen.
When company founder Martin Schmieg started the “Ingenieurbüro für Kybernetik” in 1985, which was renamed to DIgSILENT GmbH (Digital Simulation of Electrical Networks) in 1997, he probably had no idea how successful his company would be 40 years later. The concept for success lies in the cross-system and interdisciplinary approach to the energy system, the technically mature products with high quality standards and the associated cross-sector services. Highly qualified and motivated employees are the basis of this success, as are the long-term business relationships with more than 40,000 customers worldwide.

A special feature of the company's history is its 40 year long innovative and consistent focus on the simulation of energy supply systems with the very early integration of renewable energies. By developing highly innovative software and hardware solutions, the company is making an important contribution to the future of energy.
The company's international success is also reflected in its history: DIgSILENT expanded to Chile in 1999, followed by locations in Australia and Italy in 2001. The company then grew continuously with the establishment of companies in South Africa, Spain, France, the USA and the Middle East as well as numerous agencies worldwide. The headquarters and control center remained in the Swabian community of Gomaringen near Tübingen. The growth of DIgSILENT is also visible here. After the company building in the UNIPRO business park was expanded in 2011, doubling its capacity, the ground-breaking ceremony for the second expansion of the office building took place in February of this year. By the end of 2025, an additional 50 workstations will be created for consulting and development activities, as well as further production space for the manufacture of monitoring systems at the headquarters.
Environmental awareness and a focus on renewable energies are top priorities for DIgSILENT. In line with the company's environmental quality standards, the current construction project will expand the capacity of the company's own solar park on the headquarters site, which was built in 2010, to around 1 MWp and add a large-scale battery storage system.
With 40 years of experience, steady growth and more than 175 employees worldwide, DIgSILENT GmbH looks to the future with great confidence thanks to the ambitious further development of its products and engineering services and continues to contribute to the technological strengthening of Germany as a business location.
