For load -flow analysis enter the synchronous machine as a voltage source, using the steady-state impedances (Xd) and the magnitude of the no-load voltage. This represents the behaviour of the synchronous machine. The voltage angle of the voltage source is relevant for the active power exchange. Therefore it is recommended not to define it manually but to adapt it using an internal controller (see SynPermExc.pfd). The reactive power is a result of active power and voltage at the terminal of the synchronous machine.

For short-circuit analysis:
In the case of the short-circuit different impedances than in the case of load-flow are relevant (Xd", the sub-transient reactance). You have two alternatives for the model:
1. If you only calculate S/C according to IEC/VDE, please proceed as in the load-flow case. Please enter Xd" instead of Xd.
2. If you want to calculate the exact S/C current (superposition method), please use the built-in
synchronous machine model and copy the values of P/Q from a simulated case with the voltage source model.
