In the following example the switching in of a shunt capacitor is demonstrated (via an EMT-Simulation), with focus on the resulting capacitor inrush currents. The network model comprises a 6 kV capacitor bank with a rated power of 10 Mvar. The capacitor bank is switched in via a breaker event at a specific time instant (20 ms simulation time). The resulting inrush currents and transient overvoltages for all three phases are displayed.
