DIgSILENT Pacific has been appointed to provide engineering consultancy services to Wind Power for the planning of the proposed Waubra Wind Farm near Ballarat. The project involves the construction and operation of a large wind farm on numerous privately-owned rural properties between 22kms and 35kms north west of Ballarat. Wind Power indicated that the proposed site has been identified as having the best inland wind resource in Victoria. The development will involve the installation of up to 128 wind turbines each with a rating of 2.0MW. >

After months of DIgSILENT conducting feasibility, stability and voltage ride-through studies, the grid connection application for the Monaro Wind Farm has been completed. These studies included considering the complete NEM electrical grid and indicated that the proposed wind farm would comply with grid connection requirements. All the studies were completed with network modelling in PowerFactory software. The dynamic models for the Australian grid were also prepared in PowerFactory for the purpose of this study. >

DIgSILENT Pacific has been appointed by NEMMCO, the Australian regulator, to carry out the study "Assessment of potential security risks due to high levels of wind generation". The study will mainly focus on the dynamic impact of wind generation in South Australia on the Australian power transmission system. Prior to the appointment, benchmarking could validate the accuracy of dynamic PowerFactory models of the Australian transmission grid. DIgSILENT's vast expertise in power system stability and wind generation made its proposal to NEMMCO very competitive. However, the very accurate dynamic wind generator models available in PowerFactory software assured DIgSILENT this appointment. >

DIgSILENT Pacific will be exhibiting at the Sustainable Energy 2005 Conference in Melbourne on 27-29 April 2005. The DIgSILENT exhibition will concentrate on electrical power system simulation services as well as PowerFactory software. This follows a continued interest by developers and suppliers involved in renewable energy generation in the innovative products and services available from DIgSILENT. During the last few months DIgSILENT completed a number of studies in this area including wind farm feasibility and wind farm stability studies. The power of PowerFactory software enables DIgSILENT to provide these services within relative short period of time and reasonable cost. All those interested are invited to visit our stand. >
